São Paulo – SAP announces that it will invest R$ 19 million in a data center in Brazil to process data from Brazilian customers who use cloud solutions, including SuccessFactors, a human resources management solution.
Cloud computing is a priority in SAP's global business strategy. More than 73,000 companies worldwide and over 36 million people use SAP solutions that run in the cloud. This year, the company announced new data centers in Sydney, Australia, and Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, promoting a solid transition from the license sales model to the cloud services approach. In addition, as part of SAP's global strategy, the company has plans to have data centers in Toronto, Canada, and two others in China, in Shanghai and Guangzhou.
“We decided to invest in a data center because we understand that cloud computing can help companies accelerate innovation processes and simplify business management. SAP's proposal is to offer the necessary resources so that customers in Brazil can have corporate data available in real time and anywhere,” says Cristina Palmaka, president of SAP Brazil.
Consulting firm Frost & Sullivan estimates that revenue from the cloud computing market will reach US$1.1 billion in Brazil by 2017. "SAP Brazil recorded strong triple-digit growth in the last quarter with the sale of cloud-based business applications. Given this scenario, the initiative is strategic for our business and for the market, as it will enable customers to run their businesses more efficiently," says Cristina.
The SAP data center in Brazil is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2015. It will be located in São Paulo, at the premises of an SAP partner company. Strictly following the company's global security guidelines, the data center will comply with the most stringent data compliance requirements and accessibility and security standards in its category.
